Dr Zakier Hussain is a highly skilled Neurosurgeon who has worked in the renowned facilities in India, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia. With more than 18 years of experience as a Consultant Neurosurgeon, he brings in vast experience and skills in many areas of Adult Brain and Spinal surgery.
He possesses dual fellowship certification in Neurosurgery from Australasia (FRACS) and the United Kingdom (FRCS). He also obtained a Master of Chirurgie qualification in Neurosurgery from India and a Master of Science (MSc) degree from the Oxford University in Interventional Neuroradiology.
In 2006, he was appointed as a consultant neurosurgeon during the establishment of the Neurosurgical services for the Midland region in New Zealand. He started the Interventional Neuroradiology service at the Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, New Zealand.
He moved to Canberra in June 2021 and enjoyed working in Australia. Hence he relocated his family to Australia while working in Canberra and Townsville University Hospitals as a senior staff specialist in the Neurosurgery & Neuro-interventional services.
At present he holds a Senior staff specialist appointment in Neurosurgery at the Canberra Hospital and he works with other medical specialists, general practitioners, nurses and hospital staff to ensure that patients receive quality care, with a team approach.
Dr. Zakier Hussain has been actively involved in research and published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals as a lead and co-author, as well as presented his work in international conferences. He is bilingual and can speak English and Tamil. He is a member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia, Neurological Society of India, World federation of Interventional & Therapeutic Neuroradiology.
