Dr Roopa Gawarikar is a dual qualified Specialist Pain Medicine Physician, Radiation Oncologist and Interventional Pain Specialist with expertise in minimally invasive procedures. She completed radiation oncology training at Newcastle and Canberra in 2014 and then underwent further sub specialty training in pain medicine.

She is currently a Staff Specialist in Pain Medicine at The Canberra and Calvary Public Hospitals and VMO at Calvary Private Hospital and Icon Cancer Care. She is clinical lecturer and examiner at ANU. She has been an invited speaker on 'pain management' at many conferences. She is Faculty of Pain Medicine ACT representative on NSW Regional Pain Committee. She has published several papers as first author and lead many research projects.

Dr Gawarikar’s areas of expertise include chronic back and neck pain, neuropathic pain, headaches, pelvic pain and cancer pain. She also manages patients with opioid dependence. She believes in comprehensive multimodal pain management.

Dr Gawarikar has several publications as the first author and has presented at many national and international conferences. She was winner of the Best of the Best Oral Presentation at the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia’s Annual Scientific Meeting in 2014. She was an Australian National University Research Fellow in 2012 and collaborated with researchers from Queen’s University, London, on her project involving immunohistochemical marker to predict local recurrence risk in breast cancer. She is currently leading a Cochrane review and involved in several other projects.

Dr Gawarikar is involved in teaching and conducting examinations for medical students at Australian National University (ANU).
